i’m about 1/3 of the way through this book at it has yet to truly get onto the topic of the 1906 earthquake. instead, winchester has told us about about his journey across america, his time in iceland, the fault lines that make up the world, the gold rush, how the wild west came to be and so much more but only passing comments about the actual 1906 earthquake which is what i’m reading this book for

the author constantly makes small comments that allows her to reference her time as lead prosecutor for the o.j simpson trial, and it’s like yeah that’s cool and all, but i’m not here for that??? write an autobiography and move on. stop bringing it up every 3 pages omgggg

why does she keep calling henry’s boyfriend his lover? it sounds so weird, like she doesn’t call her husband her lover. it’s seems homophobic :///

i’m sorry but the way layla is wandering around the train and making snarky comments at everyone (the chief of police, the guy with the tattoo, the woman checking them in) it’s making it so unrealistic. do u really think u’d have the courage to do that when ur life hangs in the balance? ur families lives? all bc u need to pee? or make a phone call to ur boyfriend? smh at least make the dialogue believable pls

the second??? chapter wasn’t the best but this book is far more interesting that i anticipated. i remember being hyped for it when i got it but its just rotted on my shelf and left me dreading it so im quite happy i held onto it through a move & many unhauls and finally got around to reading it!
