this book is keeping me on the edge xD I am trying so hard to hold myself back and not read ahead because the suspense of it all is killing me but I don't want to spoil myself at the same time.

This is mean girls alright, Samantha is already setting up to be a complex protagonist with many layers xD Honestly love Ava so far but I fear for her future 💀

The way Kandasamy is able to invent a narrative of her own is beyond impressive.

I have a feeling I might not like this book xD but maybe it's too soon for judgement ✨

It is a wonder this book was allowed to be published at all, after all, humans love to run away from anything that threatens their tiny little security net of delusions and this book is a big ball of existential crisis because everything that has ever been sold to us as the "truth" is challenged, ridiculed, and indeed proven nothing but a false belief. Oscar Wilde is (was) a genius.

Part 1:
Can her husband, her father, her mother, her brother, her sister in law and honestly everyone in her family fucking die? The husband is such a tool, he rapes her, belittles her to inflate his ego, has a weird ass obsession with her nipples, has an inferiority complex bigger than the fucking Burj Khalifa, tattles on her to her family so they all violently abuse and STILL somehow makes it all about himself.

There are just so many themes being explored, loving Atwood's commentary on the culture of consumption & eating meat that has only significantly grown in the present times. I am honestly having a hard time understanding what exactly emotional cannibalism refers to however Marian makes me feel like I am descending into a gas chamber of frustration with her. And perhaps that feeling is it.

I feel like this story is about someone who is THIS close to a mental breakdown and has already had several cracks in her facade. It's actually quite interesting to see how Marian keeps having a meltdown but she tries to rationalize her actions again and again perhaps because she cannot make sense of her "hysterical" actions with the ideal image she has of herself. I really hope she says fuck off to Peter by the end.
