At first, the writing style was a bit hard to get used to. I am so glad I kept at it. Not only is it totally appropriate for the content, but now that the building blocks are laid, the voice and expressions of the chronicler are exquisite.

It reminds of Brust, not in tone or content, but in that perfect analogy, that bittersweet revelation. Can’t put this down now.

Wow. This is now one of my favorite books ever. Each book in this series gets better. This is no typical middle of the trilogy book. It’s excellent.

I'm sorry but Lia is driving me crazy. I will finish this series, but I may not like it. A strong protagonist needs to be fueled by more than the desire to do what she wants. There is a lot of potential here, so many ways she could be more interesting and deep. But she comes off as just hypocritical. It's ok if she does literally anything to have her own way, but others can't. Ugh.

Slow start, but before long the typical engaging storyline you expect from this series returns.

Between the pretty heavy-handed moral lessons is a good action story. But this second in the series is way more about countering American prejudices than about anything else...

Kelley Armstrong really has my number. I'm just a few chapters in and I'm already crying. I didn't cry for the Raven King, I didn't cry for Tell the Wind and Fire, but I bawled at Forest of Ruin and I'm already done for in City of the Lost.
