This is really a fascinating deep dive. I'm finding it harder to concentrate lately, due to the pandemic and stress of that, so I'm not making progress very quickly but Diamond is such a compelling writer and I'm fascinated so far. I never knew so much about the impact of mining!

This book is making me so, so depressed. It's an excellent book and I'm loving it, but what with current events in the world, the themes of indoctrination and collective memory and trauma are so universal that it's really taken me aback.

Oh man. I couldn't put this book down until right around the midpoint. Now it's feeling like a chore. Sometime around the LENGTHY period of time spent in Texas, living the small teacher life, King really let go of the centrally exciting thread; TIME TRAVEL. I feel like I have to finish this book now but I'm really slogging along at this point.
