I'm finally picking this one back up! It's my "sitting on the front porch this summer book" once again, so far, the weather has been friendlier for this sort of reading with tea and cookies! Last summer was a rainy washout so I made no progress, and my garden became overgrown with weeds. (Any Powys book is not a nightstand kind of book.)

This book is hypnotic...and thankfully, helps me to turn off my brain at night to go to sleep. (This is not meant to be a bad thing, honestly, I have sleep issues, and I welcome this quiet book's magic.) It moves along at a clip, the stream of thoughts unbroken by paragraphs and periods...fascinating and the fact that it is at times funny.

I love this book...

My Fred gave this one to me for my birthday, it's a beautiful 1916 copy! Love it!

Just had to pick this one up...it's winter, I always read the Russian classics in the winter.

I'm taking my sweet time with this one...making myself at home. It's a very interesting read, and so Powys, very deep in detail and thoughts, lots of characters with character (amusing name choices/spellings), drama, entanglements, humorous, and politically timely in an odd little way that makes me say "Huh." from time to time.

I've picked her up again... she's well dried out and flattened after her dip in the bathtub!

I decided to re-read this one since I'm waiting for Maragret Drabble's The Pure Gold Baby to dry out after the bathtub mishap...(she is drying out.) It's been a long time, but I haven't forgotten how awesome The Secret History is...I love it.

UGH! I dropped the book in the bath tub, the poor thing is soaked, I was only on page 40 something, so I'll have to set aside Margaret until she dries out!! I have put my skills to work and have slipped in blotter papers in between the pages and wrapped her in a towel for the night, and put weights on her...it's going to take time, not sure how the binding is going to hold up, but we'll see!

I just started reading it last night, I have a copy from 1915 (in mighty fine shape) that my Fred gave to me as a gift, and it feels so right to read this one now.

I started reading it on Saturday...blowing through it. She has such an easy going pace, really enjoying it.

It moves very fast...bits and bites. Lovin' it. I have 4 on the shelf waiting its turn. I'll probably read that one once I have 5 in hand.

It's so itty-bitty and beautiful - I've flipped through multiple times already, now I'm going to linger through it so I can soak it up and in...

#4 just arrived in today's mail...so I'm starting #3 tonight! (#5 is on the horizon.)

So far, so awesome!

I've been wanting to read this for a very long time, but it wasn't the right time...I found the copy I gave to my father and now is the time.
