Main character is full of stupid

Sooo boooring. And still not at the end. Author is fixated on bouncing body parts.

So slooooow. Why the infatuation with a man's bouncing chest? Do men's chests bounce?

Ugh, this story is a mess. Idiot girl loses IQ points for every second she interacts with the love interest.

More stupid inconsistency - miss capable former secret agent is not one for exercise?

More stupidity - supposed Russian assassins capable of sneaking into target's room while ex-agent roommate slumbers in the same house, subdues target, trussing her up to die hanging from tree when it would have been less hassle to just cut her throat? Story is senselessly over-complicated.

MC and former boss have a conversation over dinner about MC's roommate and suddenly realize that they've left said roommate alone at the house - no duh? This scene doesn't make any sense.

MC's bright idea is to doctor a yearbook to prove her claims - as if there aren't any other copies in existence. ugh

It's beyond unbelievable that Merry doesn't have a cover identity already in place. This feels like a cheap plot device.

Weird scene where the idiot MC is admiring her former boss's flexing muscles to avoid getting beaned by a suitcase containing a dead body. Not to mention why did former boss aim for her in the first place? Humor fail due to nonsensical setup.

In what world is putting an undercover agent on national news a good idea?! The first thing this book starts with is the main character's cover getting blown.

Maybe he doesn't believe you because you keep throwing out accusations left and right with nothing to back it up. You come off as hysterical every time you're in his presence.

More idiocy ... idiot police guy never believes you when you come to him with info. Why do you think this time will be any different? Why would you be more believable than your cousin who's a police officer? Ugh, so much stupid in this story.

More illogical stupidity - why have the magical newbie do what seems to be simple stuff when she barely has control of her powers when there's an experienced cousin more than able to do it? Dumb reasons driven by lazy writing.

More idiocy. Instead of calling her older cousin for help, Alex's first thought is to call the police detective who's dead set on convicting her aunt that she doesn't even like. Ugh.

Alex is an idiot. She suspects the rival family of shady dealings, but accepts a drink from the son's hand, finds herself acting irrationally, and then proceeds to finish off the drink. She acts like a teenager, not a mature woman with a once successful career.

Someone suggests to Alex that her childhood memories might have been wiped, something she noted earlier but didn't pay attention to, but instead of trying to follow up, she ignores it yet again. She can't seem to focus on important things, always jumping to the next interesting thing.

Silly girl, you see something suspicious and instead of doing the smart thing like call the police when your family is already under scrutiny, you decide to investigate?

Alex finds herself unexpectedly reunited with a childhood friend and can't wait to escape his presence. What? How realistic is that? She doesn't even make plans to catch up.

Desiree is reasonably worried and upset, but she's also borderline irrational, idiotically stubborn, and single-mindedly obsessive. It's annoying.

Nearly a quarter of the way through the book and so far nothing of note has happened other than the discovery of a baby. This feels like a slice of life from a more depressing Nightvale.

Dr. Georgina Cavendish is initially portrayed as so invested in her career as a professor that she can't even take an hour off to have dinner with her boyfriend, yet with the murder of her student, she's willing to blow off her classes when she's a stickler for punctuality and chase after leads like some kind of Nancy Drew and make an annoyance of herself in the process. Ugh.

DCI Whitney Walker is more unlikable every scene she's in. Just now she's encouraged her team to illegally search the boyfriend's premises, even though he's not currently a suspect.

Wow, all the major character introduced so far appear to be stuck up. Not a likeable, sympathetic one in the bunch.

Seriously, the authorities suspect the murders are part of a ritual, and you idiots (all of whom are adults) think it's a great idea to conduct one at the site of one of the body dumps?

You've found possibly relevant information to the case and instead of taking it to the authorities with which you have a solid relationship, you sit on it?! This story is idiotic.

Idiot girl, not only do you stop to investigate a crime scene by yourself at night, you let a man you've just met and don't even like follow you home? How stupid are you?

Ugh, conversation scenes are cringingly stilted

Seriously? How believable is it to have Genevieve with all her extremely noticeable quirks go undercover? What, glamour model Francine couldn't have managed it with the right outfit and makeup? Serious Mary Sue vibes here.
