Amazing writing style. But the appearance of all these characters is confusing. Needed to restart reading and creating a list of characters (Oh I just remembered- I did mention that already in my previous update 😅).

All these characters- it gets confusing. For this reason, I needed to restart and create a table of characters. But now it’s going well, reading at a slow pace, which I anyways enjoy very much.

It gets better and better!!! Such an insightful read, I can‘t stop reading!

IMO a shallow storyline, BUT the theme is INSANE!

Very intriguing depiction of poverty and suffering in St. Petersburg through the Marmeladov family. This further intensifies Raskolnikov‘s internal justification for the murder.
Still trying to figure out why Raskolnikov views himself as superior to others. I am questioning and reflecting on what experiences led him to view himself as that.

Interrupted reading “Loveless” by Alice Oseman. I feel like I do not get along with this kind of genre anymore. At the present time, I favor much more existentialist and realist books. Thus, continuing my reading of “Crime and Punishment.”

Introspection and detailed descriptions- top tier!

I am left speechless. What just happened? On to the second part of the book!

„Meinst du nicht, dass ein einziges, winzig kleines Verbrechen durch Tausende guter Taten aufgewogen wird?“ (p. 86)

„Würdest du selbst die Alte umbringen oder nicht?“ - „Natürlich nicht! Ich bin nur für Gerechtigkeit … Ansonsten ist ist nicht meine Sache.“ - „(…) dann kann hier auch von Gerechtigkeit nicht die Rede sein!“ (p. 87)

Interesting facts. Simple writing styles makes understanding the psychological concepts easily understandable.

So far, it’s a demanding and complex storyline with many characters. Beautifully written and executed- exactly, what my spirit longs for!
As readers, we find ourselves immediately immersed in Raskolnikov‘s life and the turbulent, oppressive atmosphere of St. Petersburg in the 1860s.

Pathological gambling is being addressed through the character of aunt Antonida Vassilievna Tarasevitcheva. Great inclusion of introspection by the narrator, Alexej (p. 138-9)

Eloquent translation- amazing work so far!

Remarkable writing style! In a very descriptive way - I simply love it!

I dislike the book so far.
IMO no huge character development.
Characters do not adequately portray their age. German translations got some errors that are definitely excusable, however, the choice of words can be criticized from my point of view.
