Marlow’s character is just beginning to repair his sunken steamboat. The interesting narrative style, consisting of an unknown narrator retelling Marlow’s tale, adds realism to the novel. Neither the narrator nor Marlow can perfectly remember the events of Marlow’s story, leading to a sort of fragmented recollection of the most important and chilling parts. Marlow often bathes the reader in dark foreshadowing.
