Oh boy. Someone never heard the old adage "show, don't tell." Also, Someone doesn't speak a lick of French. (Good thing there's a bunch of it peppered throughout the text, for ~effect~!) Fingers crossed the story captivates me at some point.

Second attempt. Still no joy. Starting to think Deathless was the only book in which Valente put her weird to good purpose.

Jesus Christ. I give up. To try again at a later date, maybe. Who the hell thought it would be the best, to tell a story by way of not-even-convincingly-accounted-for journal entries and letters??

It's been, like, an hour and already I am halfway done this book. The writing is really very poor, but I've encountered worse premises. A nice distraction that'll go on the sell pile as soon as I'm done.

This book is kind of dumb. Each (very short) chapter slips between different characters' storylines. There is some sense that they were, and once again will be, related but it doesn't at all manage to present a cohesive whole. Also what kind of cruel bastard names one character Fraser and the other Frasier?
