Murderbot's not having a great time -- but *I* am

Forcing myself to finish this for a panel but dear god. Hard to have sympathy for a white lady who clipped her own wings to bag a rich man and is now upset she gave up all her autonomy and her son is trying to control her. Just bitch slap that pathetic excuse of a son, take the money thats yours, and be done with this. The only interesting character so far is a side character our leading lady treats like shit tbh

For a scientist protagonist, there are an *awful* lot of random assumptions and "realizations" with very little to actually give any of these assumptions a weight of truth or even context. Very dry

Good but the author is trying to use such purple and descriptive prose that it actually makes the descriptions somehow *fuzzier*, which may be part of the point but I find distracting

Got this like two days before the news came out, and I can't return it. Curious about it

Repetitive prose, lots of "as if....." Which gets redundant seeing as how the thing they're doing "as if xyz" is the literal thing they're doing?

Lots of focus on pregnancy as part of the story and not sure if I vibe with that tbh

Needs room to breathe, the big reveal about the night MC left is...... lackluster. Entire book just jumps from thing to thing and maybe if *we* knew more about the world/commune/companies mentioned, it wouldn't be so startling to bounce around from scene to scene like this but.... overall, I'm pretty disappointed so far

It's giving Alice in Wonderland had a sci fi baby, and something about the market chase scenes is giving Aladdin

They keep bringing up meme as something with power/a virus and surely they don't mean meme-memes? Am I missing something? It's interesting so far but some of the terminology/world building that isn't clicking

Pleiti is reading a lot more snobbish in an unenjoyable way and oh my fucking God people aren't mind readers - miscommunication or lack of communication is one of my least favorite "tropes" in books with relationships, and Pleiti is really driving me mad rn

Not a fan of how the men describe the women. idgaf if it's "historical sentiment" or whatever, its unnecessary. also, where is the plot??

Probably the last YA I read for a long, looooooong time. Bree is acting her age and it's so frustrating, and there's so much info dumping and repetition that it's just annoying at this point
