I cannot explain to you how much I hate these characters, and how mad I am that I still like the books overall.

You know when a character says something supposedly innocuous and you read it twice before deciding they're probably going to die within the next three chapters? Especially when there could be a love-triangle subplot involving that character in a later book and it's just easier to take the character out now?

I am so mad at how much I like this book.

I vaguely remember reading this far before. It's not what I expected.

It has been way too long since I've read a book with such a strong third act.

I’m somehow amazed that a Supreme Court justice can in one breath call Native warmongers, and in the next cite white Europeans superior warmongering as justification for taking the land. It’s like our ancestors ran face-first into the point and it blinded them. There’s also a lot of infantilizing.

I keep getting hung up on the blatant sexism of the author, like the fact he didn’t research the history of the American Girl doll Kaya, or the fact he gave men one minute to answer a question about sports teams, “but females should take however long they need.” It’s extremely distracting. If I didn’t have to read this book, I don’t think I would finish it.

The audiobook is really engaging. I keep wanting to reach for a pen and take notes.

I will never not love this story.

Okay, so I might be doing some comfort listening today, since I don't feel like having to concentrate, the FFN app is working, and I fucking love this story.

😳 I have no idea what to make of this sentence other than the copyright is 1976 & it's set in 1890-something.

I read this book in 7th grade and apparently like it enough to steal it from the school library (whoops). Let's see if that stands.

These goddamn Blackthorns. I never believed anyone could own my heart like Will does, and then Julian happened, and now Jesse Blackthorn is well on his way.

Can we appreciate that in all but TDA, the teenage Shadowhunters' idea of appropriately adult supervision is Magnus-fucking-Bane, High Warlock of Glitter, Fine Waistcoats, and Peru? Wait, maybe not Peru.........
