So much of this plot turns on people keeping secrets from each other for no reason.

I just realized the main character has no personality. He does and says things, but there's no sense of him being a person on the page. He's just a vehicle for what little plot there is.

Still occasionally plowing through. I feel like the author has some fundamental misunderstandings about how fantasy literature works.

276 pages and not very much has happened. There is a LOT of talking, but it doesn't really either advance the plot or character development. It really needed a more ruthless edit, it could have been half this length.

This seems like it's about to be an extremely contrived way to advance the plot.

I do not understand the economy of this world. Where does the food come from?

Entertaining, but kind of like reading a novelization of a video game or an RPG.

Mighty bombastic in some of these later sections. It probably didn't need to be over 500 pages, there are retellings that don't advance the story.

I should have caught the earlier, but this could all definitely be a false flag. It would explain a lot.

This book was written by someone with the sensibilities and worldview of a 12-year-old. I cannot believe how dumb it is, I don't know why I'm still reading.

Everything about this book is unbelievably stupid.

This really should have been written first person, it's odd.

I'm also really struggling with the complete modernity that people in the 15th century are displaying, there's no reason in the story for it to be happening. They're using whole giant concepts that didn't exist then.

Page after page after page of exposition. This needed a much better editor.

Entertaining but I'm having a lot of trouble keeping track of all of the many random Jims, Joes and Janes who keep popping up 100 pages after they were mentioned in passing one time.

Wheeler rights well but his female characters are distressing, I'm not sure I can continue.

The women in these books, in as much as there are any, sure don't have ANY agency.

Will Ransom ever not trust someone?

This thing continues to move right along and continues to be such a fun throwback knights in armour joint, just with them classic misogyny toned down a lot. I usually don't enjoy YA and I'm not entirely sure if this is but it's a lot of fun. Ransom sure does have a knack for ending up in the middle of it all the time.

I don't know anything about this or why it's in my library, but it's so far kind of a delightful old-fashioned nights in armor throwback.

This is a very hard read, it's so obtuse.

Paolini does not know how to end a novel.

I'm abashed that it took me so long to figure out that this book is torture porn. The ends do not justify the means.

This thing is absolutely all over the place, it's so corny, I can't help but love it.

It's funny sometimes you get little flashes of YA in what is aggressively not a YA novel.

I'm kinda starting to think this is a stupid book about nothing.

I am having an issue with the constant use of hypnosis as a plot device, as it's being treated as magic that can accomplish anything.
