I don't have the warm fuzzies for this book but it is intriguing,

DNF. Terrible. Glad I quit.

I intensely dislike all of the characters so much I may not be able to finish this book.

I have to say not loving this. The MC, Emmy, has a name that makes me cringe. Emmy?! Is she 12? She also seems really emotional and I'm not connecting with her or the kidnapped kids. But I'm going to trust Karin & keep reading.

This is awful. Definitely a DNF.

LBJ demanded a sentence be removed from his memoirs in which he said “ass.” He thought it was undignified language for a president to use. And now our president is a convicted felon who has no problem with vulgarity. How far and fast we have fallen as a society.

This book sucks. I may not even bother to finish it.

Not a good sign that I detest the main character immediately. Andrea is 31 going on 6. Calling her Andy is bad idea and why is she so immature? The initial opening to the book was terrible too. $2.00 ebook.

Interesting clash between Richard Goodwin and President Johnson. Pres Johnson demanded loyalty and Goodwin responded with a great essay that very much fits today.

civility in Congress? A bunch of adults acting like grown ups? Congress & the president working for the good of the country and not their own greedy interests or pushing their own crazy beliefs on the American people? Respect for the Constitution? Man, the 60s were a crazy decade, man!

Jo is the perennial bitch, giving Cork attitude. If she didn’t want to be a cop’s wife, guess she should have married an accountant.

It’s the Fish. And hurrah that Amanda and Faith showed up. The novel is much better now that we’re into the investigation.

Hopefully this improves. Slaughter killed off a character almost immediately & then goes back in time to spend pages on this person trying to get the reader to care about her death. It’s sloppy. Also I don’t believe this collection of druggies and social misfits could successfully manage this lodge. The place and people running it sound like a nightmare.

This nature lodge where they are honeymooning sounds like hell. Assigned group activities? A schedule? Group meals? No thank you. Nothing about this place sounds romantic. I like nature and all but the family and the whole setup is weird and micromanaged.

Slaughter starts the book after the murder has been committed and is working backwards. I always HATE that kind of a plot set up. I don't like being dropped in the middle. At any rate, it's good to be back in the Will Trent world although I wish she would go back to Angie and resolve that crazy stuff. Angie is horrible, but she made the books more fun.

Finished this yesterday. What a bizarre and unusual book. Review to come this weekend.

Interesting. Good writing. Find the stories leaving me vaguely unsatisfied, but enjoying them any way.

Interesting to see how Republicans of the 60s still pulled the same shit then that they do now when they lost an election (same claims of voter fraud--guess that playbook never gets old). The difference is the MAJORITY of these politicians are NOT scuz bags who have sold their souls for power and an orange sex predator emperor wannabe. MOST of these politicians still have some sense & care about America & Americans.

The Rome interlude gets to be somewhat tedious after a while.

Re-reading this. It's been too long since I put it down. It's an amazing book and I'm glad I've started over. Appreciate it more.

Almost done. What a crazy book. Really liked it though.

Really good. Enjoying this. Henry is one of my favorite characters so like the focus on him.

Cute plot but losing me. Hope irritates the shit out of me. The situation itself is ridiculous. THe characters seem like every other character--the rebelling teenage daughter, the aloof mother/grandmother, the frantic main character/mother. Not sure I care how this turns out.
