I’ve read plenty of shallow self analytical essays before but this one is an award winner. I’m rage reading just to finish it so I can write a scathing review.

I’m annoyed. I hate this book so much I have to take notes. Some of it is generational (the whining, the feeling that these men owe her an apology and she’s bitter about not getting it) but mostly she’s a crappy writer who pretends she’s deep but she’s not. It’s all so shallow.

I heard interview of her on Live Wire (I think) and found her interesting. So far she sounds horrible and exhausting, Even worse, she's not funny, At all.

This book about how America was founded by about a lunatics is really, really, funny.

Actually finished this Sunday the 15th. RTC.

It's absolutely horrendous how far the southern states went to keep black children from being educated and keep segregation in place. Louisiana apparently still is obsessed with hatred and racism and keeping white and black kids separate--to the detriment of the entire state. Racism is stupid and keeps you stupid.

Revising my opinion. Not enjoying it exactly. More like intelllectually appreciating it. Not an easy read.

Actually I’m only on page 77. The bowman discussion. Fascinating.

Very interesting discussion about the concept of freedom of choice vs predestination. Are you destined to make decisions freely or are your decisions already determined by the person you are?

This is very good. Enjoying it so far.

I am not loving this AT ALL. In fact, I kind of hate it. Jill "Doll" Blaine is annoying. Don't enjoy the dips into her life. Hate the weird quotation marks around "slurpee cup" & other words. I get it why Saunders did it but annoying. If this weren't so short I'd abandon it right now. It's also very message-heavy & don't like that. I agree, George, but the heavy hand of the message is defeating the story.

Woooo! I finally cleared my backlog of books! I can move on with my reading life!

The editor annotated the hell out of this book. Seriously. Almost every other word.

So awesome I’m reading it again.

This book is over-annotated. Almost every other word. I'm making my way laboriously through it because I like learning more about the novel, but all the annotations interrupt the story. Plus, if you're smart enough to read Jane Austen, you're smart enough to get the definition of many words through context so the annotation is overkill in some cases.

I don't have the warm fuzzies for this book but it is intriguing,

DNF. Terrible. Glad I quit.

I intensely dislike all of the characters so much I may not be able to finish this book.

I have to say not loving this. The MC, Emmy, has a name that makes me cringe. Emmy?! Is she 12? She also seems really emotional and I'm not connecting with her or the kidnapped kids. But I'm going to trust Karin & keep reading.

This is awful. Definitely a DNF.

LBJ demanded a sentence be removed from his memoirs in which he said “ass.” He thought it was undignified language for a president to use. And now our president is a convicted felon who has no problem with vulgarity. How far and fast we have fallen as a society.

This book sucks. I may not even bother to finish it.

Not a good sign that I detest the main character immediately. Andrea is 31 going on 6. Calling her Andy is bad idea and why is she so immature? The initial opening to the book was terrible too. $2.00 ebook.

Interesting clash between Richard Goodwin and President Johnson. Pres Johnson demanded loyalty and Goodwin responded with a great essay that very much fits today.

civility in Congress? A bunch of adults acting like grown ups? Congress & the president working for the good of the country and not their own greedy interests or pushing their own crazy beliefs on the American people? Respect for the Constitution? Man, the 60s were a crazy decade, man!
