Wait a minute, the Knights of the Golden Circle weren't real but all the Union Leagues were?

Come to think of it, how did we get through the debunking of the KGC without mentioning Texas once? How about Albert Pike? That statue is real, so Pike was real. Can't just not mention him.

I'm starting to think this guy either has a hopelessly abtruse political stance or maybe he's Lost Causer.

Geoff Sebesta is on page 200 of 438 of Uncle Tom’s Cabin
This is the sort of book where characters are wrong about things so that the author can later force them to realize they were wrong.

This little girl, Evangeline, has to be the most doomed character I've ever seen. She's all but announced she only has one day to retirement and nothing can go wrong now.

How many times has this happened to you? You're cruising along, reading a great old book, and then BAM! Sudden really racist joke!

Yes, I guess systematic racial oppression DOES make people sorta hungry, doesn't it, Mr. Dobie? Ha! Ha!

Geoff Sebesta is on page 72 of 166 of Operators and Things: The Inner Life of a Schizophrenic
Easily the best work I've ever read on the subject of schizophrenia, and there's some competition for this title. It's strange that this book is so rarely discussed.

The symbol-set described by the author is utterly fascinating and deserves serious study by anyone creating art about our modern world.

"A blind man in a dark room looking for a black hat that isn't there."

I love this book, but it is very, very ugly.

I'm not even done with it yet, but this book is up there with Gormenghast and Lord of the Rings

Stupid Yankees making the South feel bad for slavery. This is their fault.

This book has the most amusing bias. He alternates chapters about great Founding Fathers like Washington and Jefferson who reeeeely wanted to end slavery but just kept owning slaves with chapters about stupid abolitionists who probably made slavery up just to complain about something. I'm reading a vicious take-down of William Lloyd Garrison's mother right now.

This maddening, bizarre book has suddenly transformed into a Zola novel about the inner lives of the newly rich in a fantasy barbarian empire. I approve.

I'm going to have to read Shardik AGAIN when this is done.

The horse seems to think that the South won the Civil War. This is just the strangest book.

This book is insane. I'm starting to think Richard Adams is a crazy person. A crazy person who writes very interesting books.

This is it. This is the book I've been looking for.

It's amazing how many books on the subject begin with the possessive "John Brown's". Our culture agrees that whatever John Brown was about, property rights had something to do with it.
