Quite interesting. I dont think i’ve given it the attention it deserves. I have been reading a few pages when I have slots of free time instead of allocating intentional time for it.
Not extraordinary at the moment, but I’m excited over how this story will progress.

Reading about the new order and the corruption that comes with it distinguished the hope within me. Looking back, it irks me that we had the chance to--possibly--be transformed to a developed country, had we used the money we had for education and welfare. Corruption ... corruption ... the persisting theme throughout different eras.
How do we break away from this vicious cycle?

I need a break. I just finished the most terrifying subchapter and it was … crazy. Now I am fueled to get to John Roosa’s book on the 1965 massacre.
Here are some stuff I can infer so far. Indonesia was built upon:
1. A shaky foundation, namely, a common enemy
2. Lack of consensus on ideology
3. Romantization of violence
4. Thirst for power; corruption
6. A big fat, extreme, polarization
Good stuff, good read.

I am making progress okay. I am not dead. I was reading 5 books at once, namely: The Righteous Mind, Developing The Leader Within, Happy, 21 Lessons for The 21st Century, and A History of Modern Indonesia. I was focusing on Happy till I felt like this one is more relevant right now so I AM CATCHING UP. GOODREADS BE LOOKIN AT ME TELLING ME THAT IM 6 BOOKS BEHIND SCHEDULE.

I would be interested in reading (or maybe one day, writing, after getting my degree in history and obtaining credibility) a book on a similar topic about Indonesia. Though I can look for similarities between the States and Indonesia, there would be unabridged differences. I'd like to learn more about how this translates to my and my fellow Indonesian's experience on race and conflicts. This is an extraordinary book.
