Kris is starting Scared Selfless: My Journey from Abuse and Madness to Surviving and Thriving
I spent years as a victim's advocate. This is one of the best books I've read on abuse, the patterns of behavior, and the psychological impacts that can haunt survivors. Difficult to read, painful and raw but necessary. For those in the field of mental health, advocacy, or authority figures, I recommend this one as a "to-read" pick.

What a FUN READ! I got an early readers copy of this from the publisher (As a book geek-I totally spazzed out over that) I found myself terrified by Jack Angel, empathizing with Grace, terrified for Millie. I was not a fan of Gone Girl. I found those people despicable causing me not to care about their fate in the end. This read is entirely different. I was a bit confused as past becomes present but was thrilled

Kris is starting A Fort of Nine Towers: An Afghan Family Story
This is one of the best books I have read in AGES. It changed my outlook, opened my eyes and my heart on the message that resonated "we are all the same". Wisdom peppered throughout, giggles with characters despite the most horrific setting is quite an accomplishment. How do you sprinkle in so much hope among so much devastation? Read this and you will see.

I enjoyed this book. I did however feel confused by the ending but now I think that might be a subtle point? Kind of like a fun house ride. You come out of it, thinking you know what you saw, feeling a bit wobbly, and a bit off kilter. While I felt confused by the ending, I still have to say, I liked this book a lot.

Kris is reading Into the Darkest Corner
I have read many books lately that take you on a journey like this only to cop out at the end by trying to be too clever. They write/create a twist that's unrealistic. Like trying to make Stuart be the bad guy, or ultimately making it all be in Catherine's mind. Thankfully, I rode this one all way out, sliding into home plate dirty, nervous, banged up but satisfied to the core of the home run scored!

Kris is finished with Me Before You (Me Before You, #1)
Simply put: one of my new faves!! Can't wait to pass this one on! Love, ethical issues that are not beat unto you, food for thought on how we live our lives and what holds us back. Funny, witty characters with grit. Descriptions that made me feel must on my face and gave me tears in my eyes. A satisfying read with no cop outs. Still sighing and re-reading.
