Don't tell anyone but Lien and Boney are kinda endearing to me

I'm not enjoying this very much, might DNF. I like the idea of a paladin with a dead god, and I like that both the main characters are in their late 30s and normal looking, but there isn't really much of a plot yet and I didn't expect this to be primarily a romance. It's not poorly written or anything, I'm just bored and uninterested in love-at-first-whiff with a gingerbread-smelling man.

To no one’s surprise the chapter about dead cats is devastating. But I really love the authors reflection on it. The meaninglessness of it. “Not made better by any cats that came after him. He died and I kept helping cats despite it. He died and he shouldn’t have.”

That Bubbles chapter compelled me so much oh my god; I’m sitting in my room with my roommates cat on my chest, sobbing. I knew this book would make me very emotional because anything about cats does, but it’s fucking me up WAY more than expected (positive)
