I need a breather from this one.

I'm having a rough time as the starving times are being described. I hate, especially, how the dog is starving, too weak to even beg. This reminds me too much of Faithful Elephants, a book I still struggle to read to my students.

If I had a new book to read, I'd DNF this book. If it weren't the last book in the series, I'd DNF this book. I'm fairly disgusted with this one, maybe because I was hopeful in the beginning.

Sex already! I'm thinking the "mature" label isn't going to be enough.

The first chapter was beautiful. Chapter two reminds me of Ralphie in A Christmas Story.

I feel all English teacherish while reading this. Should ghosts have hot breath?

I've already seen a problem with keeping the book for the classroom library. The "n" word is used which is too bad because I love that the author interviewed actual Civil War veterans in order to get a better feel for the reality of the war.
