This book improves in leaps and bounds. Some of the writing in part 2 is beautiful. Part 1 is an interesting memoir of bay from a wealthy family growing up in the 50's and 60's in Kuala Lumpa. Part 1 may be a true story. Part 2 when he travels to England to attend boarding school is less believable, but the writing is much better and less self-indulgent.

I am feeling much better about this book now. It is funny and interesting. I did not awaken to its style of humour before.

Who does so much Asian gay fiction promote the superstitions that something the boy's mother did made him gay?

Also, why the stereotype that femininity is a necessary characteristic of being gay? Straight men are just as likely to be effeminate as gay men.

I will keep reading but disappointing so far.

The writing seems to be too descriptive unnecessarily to me and it distracts a little bit from being a good story. Not liking the story change in chapter 18.

This book has been on my "want to read" list for a long time but I was put off by the stupid title. Anyway, I am not finding it too bad so far.

I am finding the perspective on the Tamil / Sinhalese conflict in Sri Lanka interesting and sad.

I am guessing that the character Arjie is based on a real person's experience. I would be disappointed if the character is purely fictional because it would be seeming to reinforce the steriotype that young gay boys are not good at sport, like to play with dolls and like girls games etc. which is not typical.

Have to admit that the scene with the red head slave was a bit sexy, but still not really my thing. Still enjoying the story though.

I am guessing this is a story that people who are turned on by SM will be enjoying a lot. That is not my thing but I will persist with it because it is a good story.

I read this a second time immediately after I finished it the first time. Now after a break, I'm reading it again. I personally identify with Adinath so much. It is like this book is about me or who I could be.
