Whimsical and fantastical - a great, magical, Christmassy read

Can't work out whether I'm enjoying this or not 🙄 From the blurb it seems to be very "me" but it doesn't seem to be hitting the spot. Hmm! My copy says it's book 1 of the series. Now I've looked at some of the reviews and discovered other people see it as a prequel to other books, maybe I should have read a different one first.

I ought to be racing through this book and I'm not. Perhaps I'm over-Arthured just now, having recently re-read the Stephen Lawhead series. It's a very good telling of the story and weaving of the legends...

I like the way the magic is "explained"...
