Whoa. I know this is a "twisted tale," but this story is surprisingly dark, especially considering this retelling is aimed at middle-school age. I was expecting basically "alternate Disney"—a "what if" story that still retained the lighter tone Disney is known for. But this doesn't feel much like Disney. It's on the verge of cynical. Hmm. Jury is still out on how I ultimately feel about that.

OK, almost done. But here's my main issue with the book: There is no point to Lenore Dove. Haymitch literally has more chemistry with every other female character in the book: Louella, Effie, and now even Maysilee. But somehow you want me to believe Lenore Dove is his one true love? Not buying it. Kinda wish she was not in the book at all.

A-ha! Here we go. I’ve reached the “twist” in the story.

Just curious if this series is any good, but I haven’t reached the twist in the story yet. So far it just reads like the movie.

This is just to say: Chapter 22 nearly made me cry, and the last line of the chapter was brilliant. Perfect chapter.
