What an eye-opening look at our misguided (even harmful) education policies over the last 30 years. Did you know that test scores are NOT declining in this country?

I was cruising along enjoying Stuart Nadler's prose and plot until I got to Part II, and two disturbing anachronisms regarding a baseball tryout. There was no Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 1949 (the Sentinel and Journal merged in 1995) and (more embarrassing) there were no Milwaukee Braves in 1949, only the Boston Braves, very disconcerting to a Milwaukee reader in the quest to suspend disbelief.

It is undoubtedly my failing, but I am trudging through these lovely sentences longing for an escape from this house and from these tenuous relationships. Really, would a little plot be too much to ask?

Kanon's "The Good German" led me to this, a thriller set in New Mexico in WWII as the scientists hurried the Manhattan Project to completion.

Halfway through and the Jack Nicholson character from the movie is nowhere to be found!
