Much better and less of a slog than I thought this was going to be, though I’m only halfway through. A little confused by the sheer number of characters, and those characters that show up randomly. The account of the plague is great and holds up post COVID, disturbingly so. Crossing my fingers about the hood-vs-evil showdown, which always slowed my interest in reading the book

So I finished Rage, the infamous novella (?) that King pulled from circulation in recent years because it portrays a school shooting, and kinda portrays the shooter in a positive light, sorta. There’s actually quite little about a shooting in here, and more psychological drama about hostages, with an ending that stretches credulity considerably. It’s okay but no classic. Don’t pay tons for this lost tome.

This is not the sort of book that I would usually sit down and read, but I am trying to improve my knowledge of the history of specific towns, as I am engaged in doing family genealogy, so I am reading a few pages here, and there, on archive.org when I wake up in the morning. I am reading it for the level of detail that it has about the origins of the towns, but already its depiction of indigenous people is, yikes.

This may be the most helpful book about writing a novel that I’ve ever read. But as other reviewers have said, get the earlier edition, the revised edition is garbage.
