So far, I'm loving this book.

Re-reading.

Having trouble with this one. Too mystical..Yona is super woman and far fetched. Jerusza is an awful 'mother' to her bordering on abusive. I'm bored with the lack of depth of character development of Yona...she is like an angel perhaps...and maybe that is why she has these powers of endurance and extrasensory perception. The author's writing style in this book reminds me of Alice Hoffman.

Just started it yesterday but so far, I'm not really enjoying it. Seems a bit Hallmarky. I will give it more time but I do find myself speed reading.

I picked up this book at a used book store but I had forgotten I read it a long time ago. So, I am re-reading it. This book really depicts the horror and devastation of Berlin after the war and the sinister backdrop of the post natzi regime followed by the soviet occupation.

So far, from the get go, she not a likable character. She is a whiney,, self centered child who wishes their parent dead...she grows up to be a goth depressed obsessed loner....i am having trouble getting through it. We shall see.

Love it so far!

After reading some of the reviews I was hesitant but I really liked this book. I have read most of her books, like her writing style and her view of the natural world always comes through. I liked reading a novel set in a real town (in Vineland, New Jersey), based on an interesting naturalist (Mary Treat)l in the heart of NJ.. The vivid scenes in the Pine Barrens make me want to go there.

A good story and a quick read. I could see a movie screenplay in the future.
