I knew it was coming it was kind of obvious, but still, fuck you and your outdoor cats too. Way to treat nature lovers.

Seriously? Haunted house for days on end and it doesn't occur that the ghost lived or died there?

I think the biggest issue besides the proofreading is the first person perspective. It doesn't sound like a kid. A limited omniscient narrator wouldn't have to sound accurately tweenish.

Wait. 15 minutes in, 'I didn't even brush my teeth last night, then last night when I brushed my teeth'

Besides the narrator being annoying, this isn't feeling promising.

So slow. And does Klune realize there are other shades of blue than cerulean?

I'm finding this slow, and repetitive. Even though Wallace is an absolute asshole, the others are coming off as annoyingly sanctimonious.

Another one where I'm so not the target audience but I'm trying because it was up for so many awards. Just, between waiting for the hold again and not being a sports fan I'm finding it slow going.

Okay, using the columbus metaphor, calling her isabella, and using native lands. This better turn a whole bunch or I'm gonna be pissed.

I'm a little skeptical of how much trust to put in his facts. There seems to be a definite christian bias in the use of BC instead of BCE and reliance on the bible's events as fact and biblical archaeology for chronology. Plus quoting Fox news.

I'm still going since he seems to also piss off a number of conservatives, so maybe it gets better?

I'm not getting all the rave reviews. I keep pushing through to see where they're coming from. Or is that the point, that we're all just pushing through?

I'm not getting the popularity. A lot about the Grants is fascinating, but a lot of the back and forth to Darwin is incredibly repetitive.

I'm also a little annoyed that in this anniversary edition they didn't correct masked boobies to nazca boobies, as it was decided they were a separate species. And he was so obsessed with looks he also totally misunderstood the remark about Cleopatra's nose.
