I like whimsical to a degree…but it’s a fine line for me before it gets irritating …at this point I’m too old to finish books that are just okay if something more appealing calling to me. Lol. Moving on.

DNF. I don’t think it would be fair to give a rating, although I did get to about page 155 before I abandoned. This was nothing like little fires which was a character driven novel, and I enjoyed that very much. I was aware this was a dystopian novel which I not a genre I usually enjoy, and this reinforced my opinion. Not for me.

DNF at pg 152. Was it horrible? No. It just didn’t live up to the hype and comparison with other novels I really enjoyed. I found myself getting bored and a whole other stack
of books were calling my name…too many books, so little time 🎶

I can’t do it... too much detail about the logging industry, machines,process.. too much dialogue between the “loggers”? I can’t relate to, I feel like I’d have to be an insider to get the gist. Disappointed but relieved to literally close the chapter on this one

I keep waiting for the aha moment when he recognizes the destructive influence he’s having on her life and those of her children and gets out. But I’m pretty sure that doesn’t happen

Page180....why did she marry this guy and have children with him?? This is disturbing and I find myself increasingly losing respect for the author, which is disappointing

So I’m about half way through. While Irving is definitely very funny and witty and relatable, I have to admit that at times I felt like it was TMI(describing her admittedly horrendous female troubles), and also found myself feeling like I needed a break from the hilarity.

I think this is a book to read in all the bad news and serious stuff. It’s not a book to read in one sitting,at least not for me.

Please let it end! growing increasingly tired of the obnoxious sisters and their long suffering mothers....

Giving up. Too many good books I want to read and to little time

I read Tampa and enjoyed it. I really wanted to like this book but I am struggling to get through. The futuristic sci fi element is making it difficult for me to find the characters and plot relatable. Not sure if I should tough it out or give up...its from the library and I’ve got several others that seem more appealing. Any feedback ???
