Chris is starting Calculus: Early Transcendentals
I have to review multivariable calculus before my MS in August. This is what I'm reading to do so.

Quite possibly the best book on music I've ever read. Charnas masterfully blends cultural history, musicology, and biography.

I take back what I said about the mathematics. The discussion of the theory behind the contingency table is great.

The in-chapter discussion of mathematics is disappointing. Most of the mathematics is contained in an appendix, but I don’t have much hope for that given how poor the in-chapter discussion is.

This book is more about the sociology of science than the mathematics behind statistics. It’s pretty good.

Very interesting to see a Marxist analysis of the Eugenics professional-managerial class.

He’s not translating the primary source quotes he uses into English. This is a big pet peeve of mine.

Not impressed with F Y Edgeworth’s reliance upon analogies as a method of argumentation. You can prove anything with an analogy.

Interesting to see how the law of errors started to morph into the beginnings of the central limit theorem.

Had to skip the translator’s introduction because it was so bad.
