Thought it would be a slog. It is, but I will still finish it to see what happens. If it’s a bad ending, as in pretentious, drawn-out or a cliff-hanger I’ll be miffed.

Wow. Although quite literary (perhaps too much so), this is a slog. He hasn’t heard of paragraphs and is topped in run-on sentences only by Faulkner, who at least had the decency to make them grammatically correct.

I love her books!

Personally, I am unable to imagine fighting German U-Boats in the North Atlantic in gales so severe that, on watch, the salt spray hits you as chunks of solid ice.

Not sure I agree with the blurb …’ who is surly on anyone’s short list of America’s greatest living writers’. She’s a fine writer, it’s true, but her subject matter leaves me a bit cold.
