Gorgeously written. Heartbreaking and beautiful. Highly recommend (but keep tissues nearby).

Heather is starting Why Did I Ever
You have to be willing to roll with this novel. Its unusual structure takes a bit to get used to, but once you settle into its seemingly random jumps, you notice the author’s sharp writing. There are humorous moments, but it is a very dark, disturbing book that captures a woman in the midst of a tragic season of her life.

Heather is starting The Price You Pay for College: An Entirely New Road Map for the Biggest Financial Decision Your Family Will Ever Make
Thorough and useful information. Though I remain terrified about the coat and the debt, I feel a teensy bit better informed now.

Heather is starting You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism
This book is a collection of so many true stories of racist encounters that one woman has experienced in her life this far. The authors do an excellent job of capturing the absolute insanity of these comments and events, often using laugh out loud humor to underscore how unbelievable these frequent incidents are.

Heather is starting How to Think Like Shakespeare: Lessons From a Renaissance Education
Some wonderful ideas and some archaic ones. I believe deeply in a liberal arts education, so the author and I agree there. But some of his points turn a blind eye to the reality that we no longer live in the Renaissance.

Heather is starting A Very Punchable Face
Really enjoyable. The funny, light-hearted read I needed (except for the chapter on his mother’s 9/11 experience as the FDNY Physician, which had me in tears as I drove to work. Thanks, Colin!

Heather is starting Bomb: The Race to Build—and Steal—the World's Most Dangerous Weapon
Not my usual book, but we are building non-fiction book circles for our grade 8 team. This story is a good mix of spy drama and scientific discoveries. The author’s research is phenomenal, and his writing conveys the story in an accessible and engaging manner.
