OMG. Will it ever end? I feel like I've been reading this since before the Apocalypse.

Stumbled over "a deepening depth" but guess it just means the King is human after all.

I often joke about the King, but that's probably just sales jealousy. I almost always enjoy reading him, and so far this is quite good.

I'm afraid I don't understand the dialogue choices. Are they speaking French? If so, why is some of the dialogue in English and some in French. It makes every character sound like that pompous friend we all loathe who peppers his sentences with needless French phrases to show how continental he is!

Oy! This really should have been titled: Mary Sue and Gary Stu Have Feels

So, this is my second YA in as many months. Things sure have changed since I was a YA reading YA. Are they all about the most popular kids now? About the most handsome jocks and the most talented, popular girls? It seems odd to read about feted demigods and be expected to sympathize...

Should finish tonight. Current impression...Way too long. Went in too many directions. But let's see how well he brings it all home.

Just started. Not great (yet!) but it must have been a hoot reading this back before the movies and television show when the big reveal that Jinn and Phyllis are obviously apes must have come as a Sixth Sense Level shocker!

Here's hoping I didn't need to read the earlier books in the series first...

Thank Cthulhu for this book. Rarely have I picked up a book I knew so little about and fallen in love with it from the first page.

After reading Stalingrad and then this with nary a break, I think I am in need of a holiday from Anthony Beevor.

I know he's supposed to be one of the best at this sort of thing but, come on, Tony, occasionally you need to step back and tell me about the forest not each individual flake falling off each individual piece of bark on each individual tree!

Off to a very good start...

So, there I was in bed reading this, enjoying it quite a bit, when I came to a part where GB Shaw was referring Holmes & Watson to Oscar Wilde. He tells them where to find Wilde, concluding "He is usually to be found there holding court."

"Holding court!" I ejaculated. "Who the devil is he, the Prince of Wales?"

There is no punctuation to affix that dialogue tag to either part of Watson's speech.

LOL.

I know this is a classic and all (I'm reading it because it was listed in my 501 Must Read Books!), but, erg, is it proving to be a struggle. I have not hated a heroine this badly since suffering through the Twilight saga. Yes, I am Twilighting this baby. She's offically wandered (meandered, which is about all she does) into Bela Swan territory. When evil ol' Danny had her at the ledge I was like "Yes, just jump!"

Talk about a slow start! ;p

I love this book. But I wonder how fantastic it would have been to read it before being so well-acquainted with Robert Wise's wonderful film.

A bit of a slog initially, but my attention perked up when Micky threw his jealous hissyfit.

I had a rare thing happen last night. I was reading and realized I couldn't read fast enough to satisfy my desire to devour this book. That hasn't happened in a very long while.

What a fantastic book. I'm mortified (yet again) that I've only found it now and not years ago!

My God, James Baldwin has to be one of the most depressing authors ever.
