Rattling good historical fiction, sort of a picaresque novel ... one man's translation from smuggler to privateer to capitalist in the 1770s and subsequent decades.

Fascinating. A very readable popularization of teh current state of archaeology/ethnography in the New World, and a sharp reminder of how very much was lost in the Great Death when Eurasian epidemic disease swept through the Americas. Turtle Island was not empty.

Damning. They were all doing it, Lance was just the best at it.
But I'm still a fan, still going to watch ... if the playing field is level, it is the greatest sport in the world.
