This book reminded me of Wuthering Heights but it was easier to get into. I wish the epilogue had taken the reader a bit further through time. I have a fairy tale life all planned out for Opal and Arthur, whether the author does or not.

I give up. It saddens me to realize I’m just not smart enough to enjoy or understand this book. It’s supposed to be the most important work of modernist literature according to Wikipedia but I don’t have the patience to plow through it.

So far I am entranced with Towles storytelling!

Beautiful prose telling two stories simultaneously of a region of the world with which I have little knowledge. Fascinating and beautiful.
