The author is talking about an interaction with a woman deriding her for the use of “you all” and author goes on a linguistics explanation (to the woman) explaining how there is no plural version of you. And I’m gonna put my linguistics glasses on now and state that you is the plural form. Thou is the singular form, but is no longer in common use.
