Good, no thinking holiday reading but if I see the word breasts again I’m going to throw it.

All the male characters are brutes and all the female characters only exist so the males can be brutish towards them. Characters are cartoonishly sexist and racist. I have rolled my eyes so many times. Keep waiting for it to get better…

I’m reading lots of Greek myth retellings at the moment. This is a reread of a book I read (a long time ago) in high school.
It was a bit of a slog and hasn’t aged well tbh. There is also a very questionable rape scene near the end.

Slow burn but totally hooked me in. Loved the third person/present tense - I like to write like that but you don’t see it often.

The reviews of this are so divided! I'm going to give it 100 pages and then see how I feel...

DNF. A mistake to read this straight after the Chaos Walking series (3 books). This one is not in the same league as Chaos Walking or A Monster Calls. Sad as love everything else Patrick Ness has written.
