I needed something light and fun after finishing the book about Ted Bundy. This one definitely fits the bill. I've laughed out loud so many times already.

The first third of this book was not at all what I expected--more like a crime novel than a Stephen King. Then, things shifted, and now we are solidly back on creepy-uneven ground. I'm more into this book than I have been for many recent reads. I'll probably hunker down on the couch and finish it today.

I bought this book after a preview for the upcoming movie caught my attention. Unfortunately, I'm more than halfway through, and have not connected with the character, the plot, or the writing style. So much rambling, for pages at a time! I'm going to finish, if only because I'm committed now. But I have no idea how this book won a Pulitzer. 😕

At this point, I am quite certain I have never read this book before. Or at least, if I did, I remember exactly none of it.

On to “So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.”

I’ve read the first book more times than I can count (or at least, more times than I can recall well enough to count). I’m not sure I’ve ever actually read all 5 books in the trilogy. Rereading the Hitchhiker’s Guide was like snuggling up with a comfortable blanket (or towel). Book 2, Restaurant at the End of the Universe, is like connecting with an old friend—one you hardly remember.

Although I am quite certain we are all glad we live in this modern age and not in the 1800s, we probably don't think about it every day. As I read this book, though, I reflect on it continually. The latest chapter detailed all the many ways children and women (especially pregnant or widowed) could die on the trail westward. Brutal, but fascinating reading.

Rereading this, as I don't really remember much and I want to compare to the program on Hulu.

Taking a little break from school reading.

Typically, I wouldn't read the book *after* watching the show, but I am enjoying this one. I am also quite pleased with how closely the two match. A lot of the dialogue is exactly the same.

Another benefit to being finished with assignments--I get to do some reading for pleasure! What a treat!

Some of the characters' responses are ridiculous and make me literally roll my eyes and scoff while reading. I'm not sure if it's because this one followed such an exceptional book, but I'm not impressed.

"Things either exist or they don't," said Jeremy. "I am very clear about that. I have medicine."

It's reminding me a lot of "Room" so far.

It took me a bit to follow the plot, and was initially distracted by the unusual names and cultures, but now I'm completely immersed in the story and the characters. (Unfortunately, my namesake didn't survive.)
