Slow start, but would like to finish it. Needed to return it. Put it on my "for later" shelf

I'm finding this one really tedious. I'm putting it aside for the moment, or forever. We will see.

Norma is starting The Green Road
I am finding this a bit of a slog and haven't figured out what the overarching theme is. I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and need to put it down for a book club book because it's taking me forever. It was a Man Booker prize winner, so I'm not surprised I am not whizzing through it.

It was… fine. Rather meandering, couldn’t really see the point. None of the characters really grabbed me. I didn’t finish and probably will not pick it back up.
I loved Peace Like a River, and Virgil Wander. I didn’t care for I Cheerfully Refuse, but I finished it.
I will definitely give Lief Enger another try.

Norma is starting Fallout: The Hiroshima Cover-up and the Reporter Who Revealed It to the World
I read only a little of this book. What I read was interesting, but felt that I learned so much from John Hersey's book, Hiroshima, that I wasn't compelled to read about the cover-up and the publishing world.

Did not finish. I had no interest in any of the characters, who seemed indistinguishable from each other. And there seemed to be very little plot.

This one is not easy to get into. I enjoy it when I read it, but there are a lot of timelines and characters. Part of my problem is I am just really distractible lately. Hoping when life settles down I’ll be able to pick this up and read big chunks at a time.

Norma is starting The Girl with the Louding Voice
Even better the second time. Adunni is an amazing young Nigerian girl, who faces obstacles that seem insurmountable - poverty, cruelty, betrayal, abuse- and continues to try to better herself, and treat everyone with kindness, even her abusers. A beautiful story, written in nonstandard English. I love her louding voice.

Norma is starting Feral Creatures (Hollow Kingdom, #2)
I put this book down for a few days to read something else. I’m not chomping at the bit to pick it up again. I kind of care what happens to the characters, but I’m actually considering skipping to the end and finding out. I never do that. I take that back… The only time I ever did that before was for the book Plague Dogs. I don’t hate this book, but I’m not finding it nearly as compelling as the first one.

I’m listening to this one, read by the author himself. I have to keep taking out the audio version and waiting for it to come up again, so it will be a long process but I love it!

I am listening to this book and really enjoying it. I made it through chapter 6 and then my holder expired. So I’m back on hold. I guess I’ll listen to this in chunks!

This is quite a ramble. Thankfully I don’t hate it as much as A Confederacy of Dunces, which it is compared to. My guess is that my opinion of the book won’t be formed until I see what the ending is.I’m going to do my best to be finished by tomorrow evening at 7 PM

I haven’t picked this book back up yet. I have a feeling it’s going to go back to the library unfinished. I enjoyed what I read, but there was nothing compelling me to finish. Each time I was engaged with the characters, a different version would begin.

This is the first JD Robb novel I have read. I don’t find it at all compelling. Has anyone read any of these books in the death series? Should I have started at the beginning of the series?
