prose - excellent. setting - immersive. POV character - flawed but not irritating.... i very promising opening third....

i was gonna read alchemised right now but it’s been like one million years since i’ve had any FUN while reading something, and i remember having fun the first time i read this so i swear to GOD if im bored or annoyed i will pitch a fit

some things may have PMO but that doesn’t mean i’m not still crying over these damn characters

this is so bleak and grim like simply going. places and doing things i didn’t think we would….. it was strange to me that a study in drowning didn’t have any trigger warnings when reid’s adult novel “juniper and thorn” does. this novel definitely could have used one jesus CRHIST

okay it’s dawning on me that the pace and prose of this book is an intentional reflection of how mentally ill the protagonists are rn so I GUESS i can appreciate that though I still think things could have paced and edited better.

this has been really slow going, plot wise….. circuitous even…. repetitive perhaps… ouroboros character interactions and events

getting through this so slowly bc having both protagonists stress me out so much (because i love them) makes me scared to turn the damn page

i forgot just hoooowww many clever uses of language there are in this book. so much unique imagery and metaphors and similes but executed with so much intention that it never feels overwritten. ava reid really locked in for the prose in this,

i forgot how good the prose in this book is. lush without being overbearing, rife with interesting and evocative imagery. very tough to pull off without feeling overwritten

there’s soooooo many threads being followed i. this book…. all interesting but idk how it’s gonna coalesce into something cogent at the end
