Abbey is on page 104 of 700 of A Century of British Mystery and Suspense
the stories are pretty-good-to-excellent, but the organization of this is poor; Jon Breen's Introduction is wonderful as usual, but Perry's Forward to the collection and, indeed, the selection of the stories, was quite poor. I wonder if she had anything to actually do with the selection? If so, then she's made a right botch of it. yes, I am going to be ranting in the full review!

slow, but well-written and interesting, especially the characters, although am having a bit of trouble with some odd viewpoint shifts (and a Pet Peeve - they're in italics -sigggh-)...

Abbey
Abbey is on page 40 of 350 of The Accidental Alchemist (An Accidental Alchemist Mystery, #1)
very intriguing, good characters, scene setting, great premise, might slide a bit too sweetly cosy, though, shows some tendancy that way (the initial finding of victim was a bit "cuuuute!" -sigggh-) but really like the titular character.

wonderful writing, pulls you right in - small near-Wales village during WW2, a missing girl, evacuees, and a mysterious Professor there to "investigate" the local standing stones.

Abbey
Abbey is on page 78 of 318 of Death in the Off-Season: A Merry Folger Mystery
my first summertime treat this year! when I can't travel in actuality I always used to also "go there" in books! hoping to do that sort of thing again this year. Character Merry Folger is interesting but at about 20% in am finding the large amount (to me, ymmv) of fluffy-romantic stuff to be intrusive, borderline annoying... but good writing overall for a first book, hope she settles down into the investigation!

Abbey is on page 116 of A Gentleman Called (Mrs. Norris Mysteries #2)
surprisingly good, not as floridly tacky HIBK-ish as back cover indicates - her characters afe very good and the pacing while slow moves well

Abbey is on page 20 of 182 of Rest You Merry (Professor Peter Shandy Mystery #1)
first read this twenty years ago, yikes! Rereading now so can post review AND just to enjoy Ms. Macleod's lovely, snarky way with humor. What a wonderful writer she was! (she died in the early 2000s from Alzheimers).

Abbey is reading Salem's Lot
audio via CDs, have listened to 6 of 15 - one of my fave King novels AND a "comfort read" (grin) for me. And, yeah, it was miscast but I thoroughly enjoyed the TV miniseries with David Soul too - it was that which introduced me to King in the first place, and what a wonderful gift that has turned out to be! (STAND is one of my all-time favorite novels of all)

Abbey is reading Witches of East End (The Beauchamp Family #1)
audio, have listened to two of 7 tracks via MP3, a bit too "YA sexy" for my tastes, but I love the show and this, while QUITE different, is rather fun.
