Vigils - account post events recounted by Anne. Sets the character by recounting what she sees as her flaws and regrets. Alludes to events to come, and considers her own motivations.

Good prologue - some good quotes

First few chapters tricky. Initially really interesting to se the scene, but began to drag a bit with over-explanation of some less relevant stuff like parachuting plus time in the military. Would have been better to make it relevant such as the caving/search and rescue volunteering

Just reached the end of part 1. Good place to end that part. Brandon is dead, Knox is in hopsital (memory gone) and Sean is leading the dynamic (March 5).

- first chapter was effectively a recap of book one, telling us where people are at now. Then a few chapters of character intro before the game begins

End of June chapter is interesting - mental health issues and work capability. Writer states they are fine despite drowning in work and their depression. Explore further.

Mallard clearly an unusual town with its founding on the premise of lighter is better (“colourstruck”)
Names - Stella and Desiree (self fulfilling prophecies? Foeshadowing? The names certainly have racial connotations
Reaction to Jude - “everyone’s obesssion with lightness” casual racism

I’m putting this book away as I’ve realised it’s part of a trilogy and therefore will be better read with access to the library.

45 - I think Emma is baby Alice, and that the dead baby is her child which is why the dna matched Angela
