Ohhhhh, dear.

I'm so excited to finally have a chance to read this book! I met Mr Paolini a couple of years ago, and he asked my name while signing my Inheritance Cycle books. When I told him it was Kira, he smiled and said that there was a Kira in the book he was currently writing. Super excited to see what happens in this book by one of my all-time favorite authors!

So after months of abuse and uncaring attitude, the Masters suddenly throw the students a ball? What? Hahahahaha, this is so awkward and ill fitting to the story. It's like the author can't write romance without a ball to justify it. Wow, I really dislike this book.

More than halfway done. Let me sum up. "Waah waah waaah, boo hoo hoo, self pity! The whole world is against me!"

Disappointing so far. This far in, and the main character has done nothing but complain. Seven chapters of complaining has started to grate. Oh, also, PREDICTABLY, MC is falling for dark, grumpy, misunderstood Mr. Darcy wannabe. Hot boy repulsed her at first with his arrogance but as she gets to know him... blah blah blah.
Also, where is the larger story arc? So far the plot is menial.

Now I remember why I dropped this series. The plot starts becoming very repetitive. Bad guy comes after Drizzt, Drizzt escapes. Wolfgar and Cattie Brie are angsty. Regis gets into shenanigans. Rinse. Repeat.

I remember now what bothered me about this series when I read it a decade ago: Wulfgar's complete and abrupt shift in character. He goes from being a good son and friend, respectful and supportive, to being a patriarchal misogynist who wants to put badass Catti-brie in the kitchen. I really feel like this integral shift in character comes out of nowhere and is contrary to who he has been until now.

Oh dear. Already off on the wrong foot. The writing is shallow and awkward, and has a very heavy-handed feminist agenda. IN A MIDDLE GRADE ALICE IN WONDERLAND RETELLING. Want to boost women up? Write a badass, strong female character with no explanations or apologies. DON'T write a book that makes me feel like a poorly constructed TED talk with some fairytale on the side.

I am needing a book recommendation that fits the bill of "extremely engaging" or "can't put it down." I've been writing a lot of music lately and have been lagging on my reading. I'm stuck and frustrated with the piece I'm working on and bored with my tbr list. Throw a rec from any genre my way! Here, I'll even give you one in return. Read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. Everyone alive should read that book.

I might DNF this. I'm so discouraged over how much more of this book is left. I don't care what happens to anyone, the pace is too slow, and... clinical? Does that make sense? The romance is awkward, rushed, shallow, and unbelievable. I don't like this book. I wouldn't like it on a train, I wouldn't like it on a plane.

Honestly? I'm super bored with this book. It's disappointing, since I expected something as great as The Host. This book just isn't floating my boat.

I kind of hate Katie now. Not sure if I can go on with this book/series. She's such a pushover.

Really, Katie? You have magical co-workers who can flick their wrist and conjure any food in the world instantly for you, and you choose a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a diet Dr Pepper for lunch? GIRL. Get yo life!

This book is so much easier to absorb and understand by listening to it on audiobook rather than reading it on the page (er, screen.) My first two failed attempts to read this book have been happily overcome by getting the audiobook version on sale from Deseret Bookshelf. I'm really enjoying this read. Some of it is stuff I know, other parts are revelations so mind blowing I've had to pause it and discuss with Jonah.

More than halfway through the book, and I still couldn't care less about any of the characters. Fail. So far it's been one continuous "run away from the bad guys" plot over and over and over again.

Margaret is so freaking full of herself.

I have never been angrier at Claire. I could strangle her.

Have any of you read the Six of Crows? I read the Grisha Trilogy in preparation to read that book, but I was underwhelmed and am now wondering if I should even sally forth with Six of Crows now.
