Sarah Grass is on page 240 of 526 of Powerless (The Powerless Trilogy, #1)
About 40% in. This is painful to read. Unoriginal. Full of clichés and tropes. A mixture of a half dozen other YA books (Hunger Games, Defy the Night, The Selection, etc..) Was it even edited?

My daughter and her friends are reading it so I plan to finish it. I do see the draw for young readers, especially since it is low spice. Hopefully, Roberts writing will mature.

The info dumps are so heavy and frequent I can't stay awake! WAY too many names of people, places, and lore to keep track of! So far it has been hard to get into the story, but I will keep trying.

If I have to read about one more pastry Brax is eating, I'm going to stop reading this series. Brax and Leonidas' story is incredibly dull and unnecessary. Why so much screentime? What a turn this series has taken! So disappointing.

Started this one and had to back up and restart it with my boys! Now John is reading it outloud at night and it is so exciting! Those of you with picky readers might want to suggest this gem.

Wow. Not what I was expecting. So juvenile. Maybe young teens might enjoy it?

Intensely historical, but I'm interested in this time period- prince John and the welsh. (Glad I was warned before hand that the two protagonists don't even meet each other till p 183)

What is the best klassen book out there? She really knows the time period and her writing is smooth, but often slow and often unromantic .

Sarah Grass is on page 50 of 310 of Gift of Magic (Nine Kingdoms, #6)
I had a marathon reread of the other 5 books in the series this week to refresh myself on the Nine Kingdom characters. Since the two trilogies are simultanous i also wove back and forth to get the story chronologically. The first first trilogy (Miach and Morgan) is by far superior but it is fun to revisit the characters and finish the story.

Wilcox poses the question if you could ask God one question, what would it be? He said for himself he would ask Heavenly Father how he could help instill faith in his children. Just finished a good chapter about thins.

I guess I've grown used to the slam-bam exciement of the YA genre where I'm entertained continuously. The Lord of the Rings is a classic and Tolkein's brilliance is subtle and his themes are powerful. It's a reminder to me what great writing is.

I just read the chapter on siblings. The most thoughtful concept for me was that the rate of sibling conflict can be high IF the fun times are higher- to tip the scale. It's the net positive that counts. Hmmm... that means to me I need to make sure they have opportunities to have FUN together in their lives. Also to teach them that even work can be enjoyable.

First chapter is basically about focusing on praising your children on efort (what they can control)not innate ability (what they cannot control).
Second chapter is on how more sleep equals higher IQ and better health (less obesity).
