I know. But it's less than 300 pages and I'm SO morbidly curious as to what happens next and why this one sits so low in peoples minds. The first one is a masterclass of suspense and body horror, while combining the supernatural with real world horrors. I don't know what I'm expecting from this one. But I have to see. I'm compelled. See you on the other side!

Yay! Things are happening and narrator is shifting and annoying lady is too busy to express opinions to herself! Took FOREVER to get started though!

Aughhh... It's pretty exhausting living in this woman's head. She suffers from high school "not like other girls" syndrome and obviously never grew out of it. I get the sense that soon her daughter will outgrow her. I cringe anytime a parent says something like "she used to be so small and cute and loving, where did that little girl go?" when dealing with a teenager. -_- Something better happen soon or I'll dnf.

Hello darkness my old friend...

When I was a child, wishbone told me I should read this book. I was pretty disturbed by it, had nightmares, finally my mom assured me I didn't have to finish it, could return it to the library and so I did, one of the few books I DNFed not because it was bad, but because it did it's job a little too well.

Well this spooky season, I'm back, and ready to read and finish it!

More things are happening. Interesting things. Still augh.

Tristram Shandy called this "Things as they Augh!" in their review and that feels accurate. Interesting plot, was expecting more demented secrets, but so pretentious and so proud of itself, that it loses all immediacy. It's not the age of the work either, quite pleased to read many older books, and they don't bother me. This one bothers me. I'll finish it. Doubt I'll enjoy it.

I'm loving this series, but working through it slowly. It feels more like fantasy or myth than sci-fi. The constant political intrigue is also fascinating and always has me on the edge of my seat. One of the most thoughtful and thought provoking works I've ever experienced.
