In ch. 18 Morrigan feels like a creep, especially when it comes to Ezra Squal. If she ends up marrying him it will be so creepy.

Chapter 2, and much of chapter 3, feel like retcon. Which is an overstatement, because there was never any worldbuilding to speak of. It still feels like retcon.

A very interesting book, far more than the others of his I've read. I'm noting page 76, because it has a hint of the casual misogyny that so grated on me in The little prince.

There is so much wrong here. For example, why did he never try to help the cursed werewolf during the day? he had promised to try. and other stuff.

I am getting angry with how Harry should have gotten angry with Murphy and how he is just shutting up. My somewhat-accustomed-to-noir self is developing issues with this. This woman, this character, shouldn't have been such a bitch.

Enjoying this very much! And page 256: loving this.

p. 62: "Elves do that. Toenails, too. Very touchy at times, elves can be.

- You've got it wrong. Elves are noble and beautiful and wise and fair."

I thought I should finally continue with it, I'm well into ch. 3. He's speaking strictly in assumptions and it doesn't feel right.

Less annoying than the first one, now I can see a bit of the cozy atmosphere. But still noo.

Part 3 is exhausting me. The writing combines randonness with harshness. I honestly preferred it in Part 1 where with the numbers you knew exactly where you were. Now that the chapters are linear but the writing keeps leaving you hanging, I hate it. I can tell he's doing some interesting things but..

At the beginning all I could think of was how impressive it was that he used science convincingly. Then overall an impression of harshness in the narrative. Now... what the hell is going on?

I just finished the main book and I've got the quizzes and a big part of the audiobook left.

p. 100 onwards some patches were hard to get through.

p.85 and I think I'm finding my groove. First a few pages of the book and then that part in the audiobook (a little behind on that). That way you get to think about the liguistics and then hear the humour (and hopefully right pronunciations).

I began the audiobook weeks ago, listened VERY thoroughly, but I had questions, like how are they written! I got the paperback. It was a slow go, I remembered too much. Now at page 35 I've kept up.

I got frustrated with page 32. If I used my Arbitrary way of writing Greek in Latin characters as means of drawing big conclusions, people would laugh at me... (plus I think my paperback has the Latin "six" wrong...)

End of ch. 23. After the last update (end of ch. 15) things changed fast and it got quite silly. But the audiobook is still flowing effortlessly.

A light mystery, fine for what it is. The audiobook flows smoothly, light fun that doesn't need a lot of effort. My main complaint so far is that the relationship stuff are a bit cringy.

There is something odd about the vagueness of this text. I don't like it.

So far it's way more well-written than nevermoor but also much sadder. Not necessarily a fault but still.

Early chapter 3. His blind faith in capitalism and the analysis of the formation of democracies are quite worrying. Still, he obviously knows the period and has done a good job. Googling is required to understand more. Harrowing content, as expected. I cannot go fast through it.

I told you, I told you! You copy the world building, the magical school, the centaurs, whatever, none of it where her ideas… you respark the imagination which has been authoritatively claimed, but you don't copy the storytelling elements! (chapter 23)

Just finished the introductory stuff and begun ch. 1. I wonder if I'll ever get to finish this one. The struggle to fight ignorance begins...

So far I'm a bit iffy about the narrative voice. I just begun, so...

Still sometimes interesting. Being inside Morrigan's head still sucks. The advice towards light-fantasy authors still stands. Quite undeveloped for a first installment. Most of the really interesting stuff will happen in future books, won't they? First HP book was awesome btw.

Being in Morrigan's head sucks. The writing isn't very good. Somewhere around 20% it also gave me the creeps with its connotations. Now I'm finally enjoying it a bit.

Advice to middle grade writers: It isn't copying HarPotter worldbuilding that you should be afraid to copy. None of it is JKR's original ideas and it should exist in thousands of variations. It's her storytelling that you shouldn't copy. It shows...

This is the explanation behind everything? Kind of disappointing.
