She has found her groove again after a few not so great books. I quite enjoyed this one and the added length was a bonus.

As usual, the hard Portuguese croissants are mentioned, this time within the first 20 pages. Old joke, which gets less funny every time.

I was expecting a foodie book. I didn’t know MFK Fisher wrote anything else. Surprise, it’s a memoir of living in France. She is actually an amazing and very insightful writer. This is a book that needs to be read in small bites and I haven’t got time right now, what with a pile of library books waiting for me. I will try this one again someday.

For once the cover blurb was accurate. This is a mystery utterly unlike anyone else’s detective novels. I enjoyed the quirky characters and the meandering sidebars although I did sometimes get a bit lost. As a mystery it was interesting. I think I want to read another one.

DNF. 21 characters introduced by page 20, in addition to the usual revolving cast of over a dozen people. Just couldn’t take it anymore.

DNF. ThIs writer has potential but the subject matter in this particular book did not appeal.

Amazing. To quote the Toronto Star: There is nothing like it in our language.
