Gosh "Light, like a candle flame" is such a good story. In all the ways I remembered and a bunch of other ways too.

Forestofglory is starting Ben's Bakery and the Hanukkah Miracle
So one of the main conflicts in this is that one dude doesn't think the other dude is Jewish enough, and since they are both more observant than I am it is kinda stressing me out.

Forestofglory is 33% done with Cross Game 1 (Cross Game, #1-3)
Well I really love the art style but there was just an unexpected child death so I think I'm going to have to DNF .

Forestofglory is starting Swordheart (Swordheart, #1)
Well this book opens with the main character thinking about suicide -- so that might be something some of you would prefer to have heads up on.

Forestofglory is on page 240 of 408 of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants
Reading this book I was reminded of Le Guin essay "The carrier bag theroy of fiction" there Le Guin said it is hard to tell a gripping story of how I harvested the wild oats. Well this book does just that.

Well, I feel intensely uncomfortable when planning history books talk about the FHA and don't talk about racism or redlining at all.

Forestofglory is starting Glass and Gardens: Solarpunk Summers
Well I read the 1st story it this and it was cute and hopeful -- so maybe that other Solarpunk anthology that I found super bleak was an outlier. I'm still not ready to trust the solarpunk movement though.

Forestofglory is 50% done with Fires of the Faithful (Eliana's Song, #1)
Well this a bit darker that I thought it would be, including some child death, but I'm really interested the magic and religion in this book and want to see where it goes.

Forestofglory is starting Sunvault: Stories of Solarpunk and Eco-Speculation
This was sold to me as hopeful SF, butI'm not finding it so. It pretty bleak so far. And I just quit a story in the middle because it was about cruelty to children "for their own good." I know I'm very sensitive about fiction children but the story just made me angry. Not sure if I want to keep reading the anthology.

Forestofglory is on page 15 of 176 of Restaurant Republic: The Rise of Public Dining in Boston (A Quadrant Book)
This starting out great! I love that author plans to talk about race, gender, class and ethnicity as well as restaurants as places to eat and places to work and how restaurants are part of the urban fabric. Its a tall order especially for such a short book.

There are lots of incidences here but they don't quite add up to a story. Also I would like more historical context. But the art was gorgeous!

Forestofglory is starting The Thief (The Queen's Thief, #1)
Its been a while since I've read these so I decided to do a re-read before starting Thick as Thieves. I know most people don't like this one but I'm found of it. I like snarky 1st person Gen. In this read I also noticed the urban history and how it sets up later Geo-poltical stuff.

My Lady Trent reread continues. I love all the art in this series but this volume has my favorite cover -- it reminds me of posters in my biology room in high school, and also the cover of my edition of Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Wish I could afford a giant print.

I kind of wish a) that I had a day to just sit and read this and b) that I had re-read A Stranger in Olondria before reading this -- would make the politics easier to follow even though it isn't a direct sequel. (I didn't because I wanted to read this before Hugo nominations close)

Marie Brennan has been re-reading these and posting about it on her blog. Made me want to read them again too -- but I'm missing several volumes. So I got this out of the library -- I'll see what it is like in black and white.
