Re-read. Still the best series there ever was.

All those whining that Morika is not a „likeable“ obviously have never read a multidimensional character that does not showcase good traits only. The ability to write these flawed and conflicted characters is what makes Cook so great even in second tier material like Darkwar.

The most ridiculous thing about this pretentious piece of pseudo social commentary is how Hicks lets his main character basically give a big speech about not being so divisive and hate filled while he has just painted the other side of the political aisle he obviously despises in the most vile and atrocious light possible over the course of the whole story. Yes, it is that level of ideologically stupid…

What could be an intriguing story is dragged down severely by the fact that Hicks simply can‘t seem to help himself and constantly needs to litter his work with childish and superficial socio-political commentary straight out of ideology class 101…🙄

While it is obvious that this was written by a good writer, it is very much like an old blade that has just done dull. Overall it is not a particularly good attempt and cosmic horror that drags quite a bit and whose Lovecraft references feel tacked on like an afterthought.
