Fascinating.

Going well. Hamid’s section complete - I am now at Part 3: A Moveable Feast.
Nice that the timeline is fairly linear while going between the generations of this family.

Re-read in anticipation of the cinema book club later this month.
I like the humour of Austen’s writing which was totally lost on me in watching the film adaptations years ago.

Good! I am nearly finished 2. Cold France and looking forward to 3. A Moveable Feast. Glad all the violence of 1. Papa’s Algeria (the war of independence) is behind me.

Really good. The contrast between Algeria and ‘Cold France’ is pretty stark.
Also listening to the CD version read by Jeed Saddy.

I wonder if I will ever be able to read it in the original French. Could be cool.

Really interesting.

Some passages where rather than history the author cites characters from novels which is strange. Though it may be all that is available given the circumstances of Iraqi Jews.

Very readable, I wonder how much of that is Alice Zeniter’s writing and how much is Frank Wynne’s translation. Either way it is very very good.

Good so far. Have listened to most of the abridged audiobook already so should be relatively quick.
It is more sexually graphic and violent than I was prepared for.

Really good. Became a bit of a tough one personally but made it out the other side. Glad I did.

On hiatus for a while

DNF - returned to the library. Borrowed as Behan was January's man on my 2026 Irish writers calendar.
Some quite funny bits of writing, will return to I think. The writing for newspaper was quite similar to Flann O'Brien which I also enjoy.

Quite different to the film now!
Not a big Patricia Highsmith fan, this will be my last for a while I think.
