I can’t finish this. I’m so bored and annoyed. Advice to writers: Show. Don’t tell. Write what is said and seen, what is heard and smelled rather than vaguely describing the scene. Be that person in the story and write what they think and experience.

Not sure this author is as satisfying as Lagercrantz. So far, the writing gets bogged down in details quite often.

Not my cup of tea. I’ve never read anything by this author before, and may never again. I think I prefer historical fiction written by women. I’ve almost stopped reading it several times, but instead have opted for skimming the sections that bore me.

Bee-utiful. Poetic, mesmerizing, healing, lovely.

It may be too quiet a book - too stark a contrast to the murder mystery I just finished, but it’s boring me.

This book is very choppy. I’m on page 180 and am bothered by the feeling that there are three voices vying for attention. In this section, Jack has asked Max to talk about his past in a pogrom in the Ukraine. It’s a long long tangent. I wonder how it fits.

In other places, the voice seems to change from flippant to calm to poetic in a single paragraph.

As usual, Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling), writes with full vivid descriptions. The characters are complex and the story multi-layered. I enjoy each paragraph as the complex story develops. Others have complained about tangents and long scenes that should be edited. Perhaps, they should read books by a different author. Life is not clean, linear or clear. It is in the shadow and sunlight that we find meaning.
