I heard of this book from a source on writing. The author the author's list of published books and stories would make anyone envious. But here she shares her years of experience as one of the leaders of the famous Clarion writers' workshops aimed primarily at SFF writers.
If you are an aspiring writer, this book is full of practical advice about what makes for good writing and publishable stories.

This is a lovely book about people and the struggle to live with their situation and their limitations. I commend the author's ability to paint these people's lives in words.

I'll finish this one. Each chapter sets me up for the next one and I can't guess where the story is going, the necessary things for me to continue.

I doubt I will finish this book. Because the story is told from journal entries from the main characters and a few newspaper reports, it's all second hand and the plot moves slowly. I bought this book because I had missed reading the first one, A Natural History of Dragons. Perhaps, if I had read that one, I would have known what to expect. Or I would have had enough background for this one.

Good, but not up to other years.

This book tackles a necessary subject for those who want to take their writing more seriously. However, I think the author himself is so besotted with long sentences that he overfills his book with them.
