I’ve read so much of this author’s work because of my combined interest in the Greater Altai region and history of Central Asia. 20 pages in and this memoir does not disappoint.

Been a long while since I have read a book that badly needed a glossary, required me to reread sections to understand, and to read when fully awake. Better be worth all 520+ pages.

Well, written, and interesting, with lots of on the ground storytelling. But painfully depressing, even with skimming.

Explicit animal cruelty not too far along. Book is going in to timeout for now. It's poetry in paragraphs.
